How to apply for undergraduate admission to UFRJ

We’re glad you’re interested in applying to UFRJ and look forward to receiving your application for undergraduate admission. Here you will find all the information you need to submit your application.

1. Nomination by your home institution

The application process starts with a nomination. Your home institution must nominate you to Escola Politécnica by sending an email to incoming@poli.ufrj.br with the following information:

Student’s full name;
Student’s email address;
Duration of the mobility period.

2. Application Form and required documents

After the nomination, the student must fill out the Application Form (Formulário de Candidatura), which is available on our website as a PDF. Send it to the Diretoria Adjunta de Relações Internacionais (DARI) along with your transcripts and the other required documents.

Please read the Application Form carefully. Errors or missing information can delay the processing of your application.

The nominated student must submit all required documents through the online form below. Only digital copies are required: Document Submission Form

Please note: DARI will not accept documents sent by email.

Documents required to apply to Escola Politécnica:

Application Form with personal information;
Letter of motivation explaining why you are interested in coming to UFRJ;
Transcripts listing the courses already completed at your home institution;
Approval of student mobility from your home institution (signature and stamp on the Application Form);
Copy of your passport’s personal data page;
ID-sized photo (digital file);
Portuguese language test score or equivalent document.

3. Letter of Acceptance and registration at UFRJ

When we receive your documents, we will review your application. If it is approved, we will send you a Letter of Acceptance so you can apply for your visa at the Consulate of Brazil in your country.

Shortly after you receive the Letter of Acceptance, DARI will contact you about the documents you need to register at UFRJ. You will have this information before you arrive in Brazil. We will also keep you informed about other admission-related events and deadlines.

Please let us know your arrival date by writing to our Incoming Mobility team at incoming@poli.ufrj.br, so we can send you directions and useful information on how to reach us.

Final deadline for document submission:

-From August 1st to OCTOBER 31st – students aiming to come to UFRJ in March of the following year (1st semester)
– From February 1st to APRIL 30th – students aiming to come to UFRJ in August of the same year (2nd semester)
